Ars Technica: Can I use our telephone wiring for ethernet around the house? Ars Technica: Ethernet Patch Cable Wiring Question: Does the order really matter??? A friend of mine and I are having a debate. He and I both agree that "electrically" the order of your Ethernet patch cable wiring shouldn't matter, as long as you're consistent. If you chose some ... It was commercially introduced in 1980 and first standardized in 1983 as ECMA -82 and shortly after as IEEE 802.3. It is an example of an open standard. Ethernet has since been refined to support higher bit rates, a greater number of nodes, and longer link distances, but retains much backward compatibility. While LANs may use wired or wireless media, Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) dominates as the primary wired LAN standard. It provides standardized framing, efficient media access control, and scalable physical layer options, enabling reliable communication from 10 Mbps to multi-hundred-gigabit speeds. Ethernet is technology designed to solve the problem of packet collision by having network-connected devices follow a set of rules that let devices communicate. Before Wi-Fi became ubiquitous, Ethernet was the preferred way to get your devices onto the internet. By running Ethernet cables in a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN), you... Ethernet is a traditional technology used to connect devices in a wired local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN), enabling them to communicate with each other through a protocol (a set of rules or a common network language).
