Neuron Diagram of neuron A neuron[1] (or neurone) is a nerve cell which uses electrical impulses [2] to carry out their purpose. Neurons are the basic units of our nervous system. Their purpose in the nervous system is to receive, transmit, and carry electrical impulses [1] called action potentnials. A neuron (American English), neurone (British English), [1] or nerve cell, is a cell that is excitable, firing electric signals called action potentials. Neurons form neural networks in the nervous system, mainly in the central nervous system. Neurons receive and conduct impulses. They communicate with other cells via synapses, which are specialized connections that commonly use minute amounts ... Neuron is one of the most influential and relied upon journals in the field of neuroscience and serves as a premier intellectual forum for the entire neuroscience community. What is a Neuron? Definition: A neuron is a specialized cell in the nervous system that receives, processes, and transmits electrical and chemical signals to communicate with other cells. Role in the Nervous System: Neurons are the primary cells responsible for relaying information, coordinating bodily functions, and enabling cognitive processes. Types of Neurons: Based on function, neurons ... Neuron publishes high-quality research across the full spectrum of the neurosciences, from molecular and cellular mechanisms in model organisms to systems-level studies of human cognition and behavior. Our scope is comprehensive and adaptable, encompassing molecular, cellular, and developmental neurobiology; psychiatric and neurological disease; systems neuroscience; perception, emotion, and ... For related background details, please refer to our report on fan and light wiring. A neuron is the basic cell of the nervous system in vertebrates and most invertebrates from the level of the cnidarians (such as corals and jellyfish) upward. A typical neuron has a cell body containing a nucleus and two or more long fibers.
